The new parliament is summoned to meet on 14 May 2020.
The Elections to elect new members to parliament will be held on 25 April 2020. Nominations of candidates will be received by the Returning Officers during the period beginning on the 12th March, and ending at 12 Noon of the 19th March.

The Presidential Secretariat has issued the Extraordinary Gazette notification to dissolve Parliament from midnight today, March 02 in accordance with the powers vested on the President by the Constitution.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 70 of the Constitution Sub-paragraph (c) of Paragraph (2) of Article 33 of the Constitution of the and in pursuance of the Provisions of Section 10 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, No. 1 of 1981, has proclaimed that the 8th parliament of Sri Lanka is dissolved, with effect from midnight today, March 02, 2020. The new parliament is summoned to meet on 14 May 2020.
