81,000 families badly hit by prevailing drought in five provinces

More than 320,000 people belonging to around 81,000 families have been badly hit by the prevailing drought in five provinces of the country, Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Assistant Director, Pradeep Kodipilli, said.
Meanwhile, due to the salty water seeping into the Kalu Ganga due to the drought in the Kalutara district, around 215,525 people have been affected, the DMC further said.
Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Kalutara, Gampaha, Puttalam and Matara districts have been badly affected due to the prevailing dry conditions. The Kalutara district is worst affected.
